Brasil Arts Orchestra
Since its foundation in 2018, Brasil Arts Orquestra (BAO) has been uncompromisingly moving in the Brazilian melting pot, in the midst of Bossa-Nova, Samba, Jazz, Funk, Forró, Baiâo, Frevo, Maracatu, Samba-Reggae. BAO musically uses the colorful versatility of the MPB (música popular brasileira) - the so-called popular music, which unites almost all Brazilian music styles and is authentically dedicated to the sounds and atmospheres created by many different cultures.
In addition to outstanding solos by the exquisite musicians from the German-Brazilian jazz scene, BAO attaches great importance to melodious compositions and authentic Brazilian orchestration.
The compositions and arrangements for the 20-piece orchestra, which is unique in Europe not only because of its genre, are mainly written by Brazilian musicians such as Rafael Rocha, Djavan, Hermeto Pascoal, Edu Lobo, Eumir Deodato, Pedro Tagliani, Julio Barbosa, Milton Nascimento and others.
Initiator and bandleader of BAO is Elmar Schmidt, one of the most sought-after studio drummers. He played with Chris de Burgh, Jennifer Rush, Temptations, Eartha Kitt and on tour with Duke Ellington Musical "sophisticated ladies" (feat. Dee Dee Bridgewater) - "RATPACK" - and "United Jazz & Rock Ensemble".
